Not So Scary Halloween Movies

When October starts and Halloween is just around the corner, it seems like the perfect time to put on a scary movie. And even though it is officially spooky season, some of us are easily scared, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t want to enjoy the spookiness of a good Halloween movie, it just has to be a not-so-scary scary movie. If you’re searching for a movie that it’s gonna play in the background while you are doing your nails or you’re planning a movie night Halloween party with friends, here are some recommendations for the faint of heart.

  • Hocus Pocus

This is such a witchy classic! After moving to Salem, Max accidentally frees a coven of evil witches, while exploring an abandoned house with his sister Dani and their new friend Allison. Through the movie, they are trying to steal the witches' book of spells, with the help of a magical cat. Even though the movie had a disappointing theatrical debut, nearly 30 years later it had become a cult classic, with a very dedicated fanbase and a very anticipated sequel. It might be 90's nostalgia or the fact that the movie is full of perfect Halloween costumes and quotable lines, either way, Hocus Pocus is a must-watch!

  • Clue

Based on the popular game board with the same name, Clue is an iconic and unconventional whodunit movie. It all starts when Mr. Boddy invites six strangers into his home in an attempt to blackmail them. What makes this murder mystery so much fun to watch is the amazing characters and the chaotic situations that seams to happen anytime someone tries to solve the mystery. This is an all-star comedy cast, full of snappy jokes that will keep you laughing throughout the murder, betrayal, and freak out scenes, where everyone is a suspect and plot twists are happening everywhere. In the same way, the board game can have multiple outcomes, the movie also has three different endings that you are not gonna see them coming.

  • Beetlejuice

This one had definitely the oh-so-spooky feeling we are all searching for Halloween without actually being a scary movie. This one is another cult classic that screams Tim Burton aesthetics although the movie. The characters and world-building are phenomenal, Adam and Barbara had recently died in a car accident and their souls remained trapped in their country home, the very out of the ordinary Lydia who can communicate with ghosts, and the bio-exorcist Betelgeuse who ends up causing more trouble. Even though the movie is definitely strange and unusual, it is far from scary, and the funny moments will leave you screaming Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice by the end of it.
